How can I decide which supplements really work for energy recovery after hard running workouts?

August 31st, 2009 Posted in Supplements | 3 Comments »

Supplements to help burn the fuel I have while running, supplements to promote muscle rebuilding while resting…there are a lot of options out there…which ones really work?

Water remains the best.

August 31st, 2009 Posted in Nutrition | 3 Comments »

I entered this poster making slogan contest at school and I really need help with the slogan part. The theme is "Proper Nutrition is Needed, Lifestyle Diseases’ Prevention" or something like that. The rules also states that the slogan must be composed of 4-10 words excluding articles. Please help me!

How do I get involved in women’s competition body building?

August 31st, 2009 Posted in Body Building | 1 Comment »

I am a petite woman who is interested in getting more information about body building as a competitor. I don’t mean Arnold size big, but I’d like a look with well defined muscle groups…something more natural looking. Do you know of anything out there? btw, I live on the East Coast, Maryland DC area.

My wife is 5′ 2" and competes in figure, fitness, and bikini at competitive shows that you are interested in. The other categories for women are bodybuilding and fitness model. There are are a number of different organizations that run these events and each has pluses and minuses, but in the end they are similar. OCB, NPC, NABBA, and Fitness America are some of the major ones. We live in the same area as you and there are lots of opportunities and resources. My advice is to get a trainer who has experience with competitive bodybuilding as he or she will get you on the right track(you can always train on your own, but to actually compete takes a certain degree of preparation and knowledge).
I’m going to give you 2 names, 1 in the Baltimore area and 1 in the DC and even if they aren’t that close or the right ones for you, they’d give you good info for your next step.
John Puskarich is in Balto and and Kareem Petteway is DC. Don’t let their contest looks fool you. These are down to earth family men who are into natural fitness.
Congratulations and best of luck in advance. It has changed my wife’s life as she has travelled to Hollywood, Miami, NY in addition to local events and has appeared in several magazines after just 18 months of starting.

How and where should baseball cards be sold?

August 31st, 2009 Posted in Baseball | 3 Comments »

My dad recently bought a baseball collection from an estate sale. The stuff had never been sorted through, and after doing so, we found some amazing stuff (signed baseballs, augtograhed posters cards, sheets of uncirculated cards). He asked me to try and help sell some of it for him, but the sheer volume that we have is making it ridiculously hard (we had to rent a storage unit to hold his stuff!).

I know a lot of things that we have aren’t necessarily valuable. There are cards that we have a thousand of that may not be worth the box that they are in. I did a little research and found a pricing guide at beckett. But unless someone is looking for the card, it’s not necessarily as valuable as they say it might be.

Other than ebay/yahoo auctions, is there a place to list the cards/other items we have to sell? Is it better to sell it to a store rather than list each of the cards separately? Or, if selling online, should I try to keep these in sets?

If you have complete sets, definitely sell them as sets. If you break them up, you will never sell each individual card. EBAY is probably the website that you will get the most money for them, but it will be a lot of work to list them all, package and ship them. Definitely make sure you research the "worth" of the card before you start the auction. Also the condition of which the cards are in, play a major role in how much you will get for them.

As a huge baseball fan and a collector of cards for years, I’m excited just thinking about what you may have. Can I have a peak? :)

Enjoy.

August 31st, 2009 Posted in Growth Hormone | 1 Comment »

I think my partner is taking growth hormone behind my back and I dont really know much about it he seems tired all the time is this a sign?
How can I stop him from doing this I am worried about him

This is a strange worry. I wonder if you have any specific reason for this concern? Growth hormone is quite expensive and only available on prescription to those that actually need it.

How can one know which brand of herbal supplements is best and most credible?

August 28th, 2009 Posted in Supplements | 6 Comments »

I spend alot of money buying alot of herbal and nutritional supplements, but lately I’ve been wondering how one can know which supplements truly contain the ingredients that they claim in the amounts that they claim, and whether they are manufactured with quality standards, etc. Since they aren’t regulated, how can one know for sure. Are there any brands that are frequently tested by independent labs, and how does one know that the supplement company is not just paying off the lab to give it a passing score? I’m obsessing over this but don’t know how to find credible information about it. Can anyone help? Thank you.

Good question, because these products are essentially unregulated.

Sometimes they are contaminated. Here’s a list of supplement warnings and recalls from the FDA:

This site claims to review supplements, but you need to suscribe. The NIH has a review of the site, but doesn’t mention the accuracy of the testing.

Consumer Reports sometimes evaluates supplements, but I think this site also requires a subscription:

I’d be interested to know about other third-party testing.

Did you receive any nutrition education as a child? How and when did you learn about nutrition?

August 28th, 2009 Posted in Nutrition | 7 Comments »

I’m trying to find the best way to teach my kids about good nutrition, since I didn’t learn much as a child.

I never received any nutrition information growing up. Luckily I’m the type of person that likes to get answers to all her questions so I do a lot of research. :-)

What certain foods i can take to get rid of belly fat without affecting my diet body building program?

August 28th, 2009 Posted in Body Building | 2 Comments »

It’s been a redundant question everynow and then but I can’t seem to find the answer or solution for my belly fat that stayed even in an almost a year program of body building. I want to gain muscles but at the same time to loose the fat. I’ved learned that eating carbo can give you energy (rice, bread, potato & alike) but is it the same reason my belly fat stayed? so if i have to reduce carbo what diet should i take for not to affect my body building program? HELP!

You can eat whole wheat breads and rice. Potatoes are pretty starchy..I think eating a baked potato is probably the healthiest way to eat one. As long as you dont load it with butter and sour cream. You can eat carbs as long as it is in moderation.

What should the administrators do to make Baseball as good and as popular as Cricket?

August 28th, 2009 Posted in Baseball | 3 Comments »

I think the competition between the original game Cricket and the modified game BaseballI has increased tremendously in last few years and the Baseball hasn’t been able to match the standards and popularity of Cricket.
In that case, what do you think the administrators can do to improve Baseball to decrease the gap between the two great games?

Your ideas will be highly appreciated and if possible i will e-mail that to the Baseball Federation.
Regards.
