Nutrition, Vitamins and Minerals, where can I find a reliable source to know how much is too much?

October 30th, 2009 Posted in Nutrition | 3 Comments »

I am learning about nutrition, for my own interest and benefit. I have a couple of decent books, one with a table of nutritional values of foods.

There are many references to the toxicity of some vitamins and minerals if taken in excess, but nowhere can I find out how much is too much and the symptoms.
Can anyone help, please.

The following may be of interest, it is long and may not be up to date but will give you some guidelines.

Found through the Food Standards Agency http://www.food.gov.uk/

Baseball fans: What exactly is a changeup? How is it different from a breaking ball?

October 30th, 2009 Posted in Baseball | 9 Comments »

I’m a little embarassed to ask this question as I’ve been a baseball fan all my life!

Okay….

The difference is in the throwing mechanics and the action of the ball.

A breaking ball is a general term for any pitch where the ball has movement. A curveball and slider are both breaking balls. For a curve the movement is typically down and for a slider it is to the the side.

A change up is when you make the same pitching motion as a fast ball, but due to the grip, the ball travels much slower (i.e. fastball might be 90 mph, a change up is 75 mph). It throws the timing of the batter off.

Can anybody give reference about Body Building ?

October 27th, 2009 Posted in Body Building | 2 Comments »

I am body building beginner. I usually start body building by running upto 30 minutes at 9 km/h of speed. I lost 10Kg of weight in one month and know i am 70Kg before i was 80Kg. I want to know can I use Mega Mass Protein for the body building because i am not that much muscular yet. And i am dieting toooo. Please any body give me reference about this.

Ok so you want to put on muscle or you want to diet. I don’t understand your goal here. First you sound like you want to gain weight yet you say you’re dieting at the end.

Either eat enough calories everyday and workout with a proven routine and gain weight easy as that. focus on eating protein, complex carbs and good fats/veggies at the end of the day.

checkout http://www.t-nation.com and http://www.ironminds.com and learn learn learn use the search function . There’s lots of free solid gold info take it all in and you’ll reach your goals in no time. Stay consistent dont quit. Feel the strain of pushing weights and feel your muscles contract and make them get bigger with every month that goes by. good luck and don’t train like a nancy candy ass boy

What makes a major league baseball player?

October 27th, 2009 Posted in Baseball | 6 Comments »

While watching the league playoffs, I wondered where did these guys come from? They are from different countries, ethnic groups, religions and have a wide variety of ages and physiques.

Have you read a book, or studied baseball players and baseball for a long time? Did you learn what brings one young boy up to the major leagues, while another never leaves the sand lot or little league?

IMHO here is my list. I think almost every player is missing one or two of these, but you won’t find a major leaguer with less than 80% of these attributes:

!. Strong ego- a devine belief in yourself that will persevere through any challenge, hardship, poor performance or adversity. Not to be confused with arrogant.
2a. A strong psyche- ability to think without being clouded by negative energy.
2b. Clutch- not affected negatively by external pressures.
3a. Knowledge of the game- how the pitcher will set him up, understanding of strategies, how to move runners/ where to hit the ball, opponents tendencies, etc.
3b. Team player- using knowledge of the game to his own and team’s benefit
4. Develops skills and moves to next levels of development quickly
5. Retainment of skills learned/ muscle memory- through repetition and practice
6. Desire to excel through refinement of skills/ practice
7. Impeccable fast-twitch muscle skills- superior reactions/ quick feet, hands, trunk
8 Footspeed- slow-twitch excellence
9. Incredibly accurate vision
10. Luck- The help of he right person and situation to rise from level to level from t-ball to the Hall of Fame

Note- size is NOT on this list. I played at 6′5, 230, and I really think it’s not essential. Also, I don’t think every major leaguer has all these qualities, But if I had to say which ones are most pre-eminant, I’d say
1.) fast-twitch muscle speed
2.) vision
3.) footspeed
4.) #4)-#6
5.) #1-#3b
6.) luck

Thanks.

What’s the difference between HGH (Human Growth Hormone) & Cortisone baseball players used. Are both illegal?

October 27th, 2009 Posted in Growth Hormone | 5 Comments »

What’s the difference between HGH (Human Growth Hormone) & Cortisone baseball players used. Are they both illegal?
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THEM? That’s my main question. Which is used for what?
Awesome answer posted by b m. Thank you.

Both HGH and Cortisone are legal with a prescription. Both are natural hormones made by the human body, though they can also be artificially synthesized. Athletes are often permitted to use cortisone, because cortisone isn’t really performance-enhancing. Athletes are sometimes permitted to use HGH, usually in the case that they are still quite young (less than 20) and they would naturally be unusually short without using supplemental HGH. The only case like this I can think of off the top of my head is the Argentinian soccer player Lionel Messi, who is 18, and is legally receiving supplemental HGH so he reaches a normal height.

Cortisone is usually injected directly into the injured area. It is a non-performance-enhancing steroid which acts primarily locally (it doesn’t have much effect on the whole body, just in the area where it is injected). Cortisone suppresses the body’s pain response in the injured area, allowing players to play through pain.

HGH is a very important hormone which has effects on your entire body. The amount of HGH in your body is the biggest factor determining how tall you will grow. HGH prompts bone growth and many other effects throughout the entire body. HGH is legal with a prescription, like cortisone, but because HGH is a much more powerful natural hormone, the potential for HGH abuse and illegal use is much greater than that for cortisone.

What supplements should i go on to become a body builder/powerlifter?

I got a very generous coupon to GNC and want to start buying some supplements for my lifting. I was thinking Nitro-Tech, Black Powder, Fish Oil and a Protein. Any suggestions?
