How to calculate your total nutrition of the day using the nutrition facts label?

January 1st, 2010 Posted in Nutrition | 1 Comment »

my assignment in biology is to record all of the food we eat in one day and then record the total nutrition into a Nutrition facts table something similar to this http://www.nestle.ca/NR/rdonlyres/EF764B3A-5216-46BA-95DC-B573C44EF266/0/BistroPestoGrChkn_NFT.gif. I dont know how to combine all of the nutrition into one table can someone help me?

Basically, you just add the percentages of daily value and the number of grams for each nutrient (fat, protein, etc.) together to get your total nutrition. Then, go to Excel and make one that looks kinda that example…?

December 28th, 2009 Posted in Nutrition | 2 Comments »

I am in college, and am incredibly stressed because I don’t know what I want to do. I’ve been considering Pharmacy, but my GPA is quite low, and I am in the process of changing to Nutrition Science. I messed up my freshman year, and am trying harder my second year. What are some careers to work towards with a degree in Nutrition Science?

In a hospital setting you can be the dietitian. Their responsibilities is to select the appropriate diets like , low-sodium diet or diabetic diet, for patients and follow-through.

Or maybe in a weight-loss clinic.

Is there a good search engine I can use to find nutrition facts on basic foods?

December 24th, 2009 Posted in Nutrition | 2 Comments »

I’ve been searching for some basic foods and it is so hard to find! is their just one site I can go to and simply type in a food and get a chart of its nutrition facts?

this is my favorite site for that:
www.calorieking.com – Food Database

They have pretty much EVERYTHING in there including fast food and a lot of sit down restaurants.

What orgenelle in an animal cell is the site of autotrophic nutrition?

What orgenelle in an animal cell is the site of autotrophic nutrition?

It’s a regents question which I need help with.

This is an odd question, since animals are heterotrophs not autotrophs. Plants are autotrophs (can make their own food and high energy molecules) and they use chloroplasts to do it. Animal cells get their high energy molecules by eating food, breaking it down and then extracting the energy using the organelle called a mitochondrion.

Who is interested in the nutrition industry to help others while making money yourself?

The pharmaceutical grade nutrition industry is booming! People are waking up to the fact that many prescription meds and even our own doctors are killing us. If you are not taking pharmaceutical grade nutrients in sufficient quantity you should look into it. If you are not sharing these wonders with others, you are missing the boat.

Spam comes in many forms. It has now entered Yahoo Answers. How very sad. : (

when you read about different diets, for breakfast you see eat half a grapefruit, why is it a grapefruit and not an orange? whats the difference in nutrition between the two?

They are very close to each other in terms of nutrition.

Pink grapefruit has more Vitamin A than orange, that’s about it.

Grapefruit:
The Good
This food is very low in Saturated Fat, Cholesterol and Sodium. It is also a good source of Dietary Fiber, and a very good source of Vitamin A and Vitamin C.

The Bad
A large portion of the calories in this food come from sugars.

What are some ideas for where a college student majoring in nutrition might look for a job/volunteering?

November 16th, 2009 Posted in Nutrition | 5 Comments »

I’m a freshman in college, majoring in nutrition. For my major you have to do a 5th year internship. To be chosen, it looks really good if you’ve worked and volunteered in things that relate somewhat to nutrition. I’m trying to think outside the box. I’ve been looking at the local hospital, my states food bank and nursing homes. Also job-wise there are restaurants and grocery stores maybe? But what are some other ideas where I could possibly work with any connection to food? I’d really appreciate any ideas! Thanks!

nursing home or assisted living center
