What are some ideas for where a college student majoring in nutrition might look for a job/volunteering?

I’m a freshman in college, majoring in nutrition. For my major you have to do a 5th year internship. To be chosen, it looks really good if you’ve worked and volunteered in things that relate somewhat to nutrition. I’m trying to think outside the box. I’ve been looking at the local hospital, my states food bank and nursing homes. Also job-wise there are restaurants and grocery stores maybe? But what are some other ideas where I could possibly work with any connection to food? I’d really appreciate any ideas! Thanks!

A hospital cafeteria, making food for visitors and patients. They have to be very careful about nutrition there.

I think the idea of working at a hospital is a good one. You might also look into local school systems. Schools are usually strapped for money and perhaps they could use more help/ideas. I have heard of one school system (I think, in Naperville, IL), who has added a FREE fruits and vegetables bar for the elementary students. Isn’t this a great idea? No matter what the students have brought, or even if they have no lunch, whatsoever, they have that opportunity to have food from this source. A great way to help kids make better choices. Try the schools or even preschools who offer foods.

You may want to check with your area senior citizens centers as they generally will provide meals on-site for the elderly. Another thought would be the Meals On Wheels program in your area. HeadStart programs and day care centers might also be good to look in to.
